probably low on fluid or has a seal problem in the pump so you are losing pressure

rack and pinion unit is probably going bad in it,that's how they do when they start to go out, they will sometimes cut in one direction and be real hard to get straitened back out,you may want to have this checked they have been known to cause accidents by doing that, good luck.

as it is a front wheel drive car i would have the cv (constant velocity) joints checked out they are like the universal joints on a drive shaft of a rear wheel drive car. it deals with your transmission transferring power to the wheels if those joints are damaged you could have a serious accident. also check your front seatbelts as there is a recall on that particular year model for seatbelts.

Check your ball joints and make sure your power steering belt is on there. Also you should be able to see the fluis flowing in the reservoir when the car is running. The steering racks also leak on the like you know what.
