Default Are you happy with your Acura TL?

After going through some cars, I decided to get an Acura TL, the offer was just simply too good. Lets just say it was so good that the $5000 off that Honda was giving me for the new Accord coupe looked pale in comparison. Anyways, I ended up getting a TL with navi, etc. I am picking it up either on Monday or Tuesday. Just wanted to know what other owners have thought of their car.My previous car was a G35 coupe, and I loved that car. I know no car under $80k will make me as happy as the G coupe did, but I am hoping the TL will "suffice".

I drove a new 06 for about 2 weeks while my 01 was in the shop. Totally different car from the previous generation TL. More hp, which I liked, but it had a stiffer suspension and the ride was not as smooth. I live in the city and I could feel every hole in the road. But on the hwy it was smooth and accelerated very nicely, even at high speeds.Eventhough I don't really want one and am looking at replacing my 01 with other cars I still think the TL is about the best value on the market for this grade of car. I don't think you can find a nicer car for the price - lots of features and this one is actually reliable (unlike the 00-03 TLs). Good luck, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I drive an '06 AT model that I enjoy a lot. And I agree that the ride is slightly stiff, but it's all to my liking...it corners well. I've added ~ $1,500 of performance mods to it that help it corner even better, and bump the HP to the Type S level, while improving fuel economy. No problems with reliability so far (9,500 miles on odo). My only complaint is the rear visibility is a lot worst than our 2000 V6 Accord; most sport sedans make some design compromises somewhere. Agreed, the TL is perhaps the best mix of desirable features, offered at a hard-to-beat price. Honda's Acura group has done very well by this car.Lastly, the issue of the TL being FWD that so many make so much of is hardly an issue for me. 'Torque steer' isn't much of a problem, & the car's VSA feature (if engaged) keeps drivers out of trouble in fast corners. I keep it disengaged.Rumors are that Honda's 4th Gen TL will be AWD. Personally, a RWD version from a juiced-up 3.5L Advanced VTEC motor would be nirvana for me. IMO, Honda needs to keep the car light...under 3,600 lbs.

I hate to say, but I hated mine. I started looking for a new car after a year, and traded after two years. I'd never buy another.I traded for a BMW and there is no comparison at all. Also buying a car that is about to be obsolete in less than a year is also a mistake. Which is probably why they gave you such a good price on it.UPDATE: I just wanted to say hello to the sad little fan-boys that gave me a thumbs down to this answer. I purchased a brand new TL and owned it for two years. I think the car is dated and boring. The questioner asked us for an honest opinion and I gave one. And seriously, buying a car that's about to become horribly obsolete is just financially stupid. The price will drop like a stone when the '09 hits next year. If you are going to buy a new car, you have to consider this.I'll tell you the honest truth. If you offered to give me a brand new Type-S for free, I would rather keep my BMW and continue to make payments on it. If you did give me a Type-S for free, I would trade it for a BMW in a New York Minute. I've owned a TL and a 3 series, and I PROMISE there is no comparison. I paid six grand more for my BMW. Why on earth would I do this if I didn't think it was a significantly better car?But you fan boys enjoy that front wheel drive with 60/40 weight distribution, and just keep dreaming that you are driving a sports sedan. Despite the fact that you can be smoked by the new Accord or the new Altima, that both cost thousands less.

I think you're going to love your Acura TL. The G35 you previously owned is a nice car too but a completely different feel to it. I've owned Honda's and Acura's for years. Even though the Accord is a great car the difference of luxury and performance you'll notice in the TL will be well worth the money spent. The Navi is awesome and is one of the best in the industry. I really like the Navi and so will you. The sequential sport shift is a cool touch. The leather quality is tops. Proven engine technology and suspension make for a fun ride. It's just got the complete package. I wish you many happy years of enjoyment with your new car.

From a G35 to a TL wouldn't that be considered a downgrade? I own a 97 TL, although I am happy with my car since it has over 200K miles and it's still taking me places, it's the amount of money I've put into fixing it that I'm not too happy about, could have spent less with the same results instead of taking it to the dealership.
