Default transmission jumps to neutral when floored?

When I floor the gas pedal very, very, very quickly, it drives until 3000RPM, then it seems to shift into neutral all by itself, and my engine jumps up to redline. however, the gearshift is still at d5 and the indicator says d5. is this normal (some protection feature) or a problem? i have a rebuilt 00 tranny so it shouldn't be defective. also, i have to try really hard for my transmission to do this as just laying on the gas doesn't cause this; i need a very quick push. please help, thanks!

You should go back to the re-builder and ask them to check it, it may just need to be re-flashed hopefully. Good Luck and God Bless

When you accelerate and shift through different RPMs the engine and tranny actually move a small amount back and forth. It sounds as if the shift linkage wasn't properly aligned when the rebuilt was installed. You might also have a look at the tranny mounts but, my money is on the linkage alignment.

Sounds like a bad rebuild. Your gears seem to be slipping. Stop flooring it for now and have it checked out soon as possible. You could be ruining your trans!
