I think under the circumstances you've described, this car may be a bit of a 'gamble'...Please don't get me wrong, I am a Honda/Acura 'nut', and our family drives 3 x Honda products, one being an '06 TL. However, the reason I suggest the '00 TL being a gamble is due to the automatic transmission failure issue that has plagued between 2-8% of Honda's '98-'02 V6 models (that includes the 3.0 & 3.2L Acuras too). The loss of a class-action lawsuit during '05 resulted in the extension of warranty coverage over the transmissions for those models affected...extended to 108K miles, or 7 yrs. The problem has been identified as 2nd gear clutch pack failures. So the risk you take is that though the car is otherwise a gem, your teenager may drive it for a while, even perhaps rough-handle it a bit here & there (as teenagers might do), and the next thing you know, you're looking at a $2,500+ repair bill for a rebuilt transmission that'll only be warranted for another 12 months. IMO & as much as I am a die-hard Honda 'nut', in your situation, I'd go for something could be a used Honda 4 cylinder Accord, or perhaps a used Camry or Avalon of the same vehicle age.
