I have been putting regular in by accident the past three or four time I filled up and now I am worried that I may be hurting the engine. I purchased the car used and did not know it needed premium.

if it says it needs premium, then it needs premium. it would be a good idea to run some fuel cleaner through with the next tank. most auto parts stores should have some. to check for sure if it needs premium. look at your fuel flap, it should be listed on a sticker, along with the stock tire pressures.

Not a huge deal if you didn't notice a lot of pinging on the lower octane. You likely will also experience worse gas mileage on the lower grade fuel. I wouldn't worry about a few tanks, but I wouldn't make it a habit... just start running premium and enjoy your new car.

No It wont hurt the engine they recommend premium gas to help the spark plugs to stay cleaner longer and for the engines performance but it really shows a difference like driving on the highway. If you are worried than just make sure if your using the low grade gas that your buying it from a good gas station like Chevron or what evers in your area, and stay away from the cheap gas station like Thrifty marts or quick stops. their gas has bad detergents and is watery.

If you go back to premium now and continue to use premium everything will be fine.Over the long term it can damage the engine, and in the short term you will lose power and maybe even get funny noises from the engine.Don't worry about what you did, I seriously doubt you caused any harm. Just don't do it in future.

No car really NEEDS premium fuel, unless its like a Maserati or Bugatti. They recommend it for optimum performance and best gas mileage. I would do mid-grade, I use it in my BMW and its fine. I would just avoid the really cheap stuff..

What the he!! are you guys talking about? First of all, the only thing premium has over regular is a higher octane rating. Other than that the gas is the same. It doesn't burn any cleaner or any more efficient nor will the engine or components wear out faster or get dirtier. Octane is just anti-knock rating. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_..._octane_rating Unless you're racing or towing you'll never notice the difference. You will never hear any pinging or knocking. Acura's have a knock sensor so at the first hint of knocking or pinging it will adjust the fuel and timing to stop it so you won't have to worry about any engine damage. Major gas stations buy gas from whoever has the cheapest gas, so Exxon will not have 100% Exxon gas at their pumps. Also cheap independent stations buy gas from the major gas companies. The tanks at bigger stations may be cleaner so I would get gas from a reputable place. If, on ocassion, you floor it and keep it floored until the transmission shifts to the next higher gear then you need premium if not you or your car will never notice the difference.Edit Friday, October 12, 2007http://www.edmunds.com/advice/fuelec...s_x.htmPremium is needed for max performance but if you want to get better fuel economy and drive like it, you won't need it. Have you noticed a drop in gas mileage? If your car absolutely positivly needed premium and engine damage would result in using a lower grade, the filler neck and gas nozzles would be designed so only premium could be pumped in, similar to the leaded gas and diesel nozzles.

Yes, this is a high compression, high performance engine. If you do not use the proper fuel, it will damage the engine, but what does this really mean??? Well, instead of getting say 250,000 miles out of your car, it might quite at 200,000 miles. It's not a big difference but just the same you bought this car for high performance so put in the matching fuel. That's if you ALWAYS use regular gas, the 4 past fill ups aren't going to make much of a difference... perhaps it cost you 1,000 miles but who cares, you will sell this car before it dies. Don't be concerned with the past, press the gas and GO!OMG, there are lots of people here that don't know the long term effects. Sure there's a knock sensor on ALL cars that will retard the timing, but why should the engine knock at all in the first place if you are using the correct fuel? That little bit of knocking before the computer compensates for stupid people that think computers are smart will indeed cause the engine to wear (just a tiny bit) faster than normal. The real impressive thing about gasoline engines is not how they work, but how they work for so many miles!
