Default Is a RSX Type s motor supposed to get twice as loud once u pass 6000 RPM's?

I just bought an 2002 RSX Type s and when i pass 6000 RPM's in any gear the motor sounds like it starts working really hard and gets twice as loud as it was at 5800 RPM's... is this something i should be worried about?

No its called vtec. It just enage. Do you have aftermarket intake, headers, exhaust that could be the reason it could easyer be heard

Do you know anything about the car you just bought, obviously not - and that's too bad. It's called VTEC - it changes your valves lift and duration, creating more power at the top end of the power band. That is where these cars really shine, they're like a crotch rocket on four wheels. The best example of this is the Honda S2000 with a redline somewhere near 10 or 11,000 RPM.So YES, it is supposed to be louder in that RPM range. Now go tach it up and enjoy it, those cars are a ton of fun.

before your vtec kicks in your car is a normal 130hp economy car...at 5800rpm you get an extra 70 hp and a throaty sound from the engine...

It's those sweet, sweet, dual overhead cams kicking in from the VTEC. Plus, some exhausts muffle the exhaust better at different rpms. It could just be that at 6000rpms, the exhaust's frequency is just right that it sounds louder. My teg sounds really quiet at 3000rpms, but at 4500 and up it gets way louder.Oh wait... That's just the BOOOOOST.

I am an RSX owner as well and even at stock the sound change in volume and tone is stunning at 5800 rpms. This is even in comparison to other cars with VTEC and VTC. The sound change will be muffled or more strongly pronounced depending on how you modify the car. Aspirating mods will make it more noticeable. I have a supercharger and that pretty much negated the feeling and sound.
