Head gasket is the seal between the cyl head and the engine block. Costly procedure on any engine. Expect price to run anywhere from $800-$1500 depending on complexity. You should be loosing coolant if this is your issue for overheating. If you aren't loosing coolant but still overheating, replace your thermostat and have your radiator checked for restriction of flow. Radiators can get an accumulation of gunk or deposits. Sometimes a flush works to clear it out. Insevere cases, radiator replacement is the cure.

if a head gasket on a honda/acura goes out, it is usually because of a major overheating episode. check the thermostat and bleed the air outa the system. a head gasket is major $ since timing belt has to come off and the best shops will send the head to get it machined so it is level....

Dude meant cylinder head gasket! Boy, that's gonna put a big dent on your wallet...but always get more that one quote and be sure that the problem is verified by these shops. Oh, the cost is probably from $1200-2200 easily and possibly more if more damage is found during work in progress..
