Default Stick-shift Driving--for the girls only?

STORY TIME: See the thing is, my boyfriend is so determined to teach me how to drive his Acura GSR. He told me all I need to know. I drove it once a couple years ago, I did fine; but then a couple months down the road he said I stalled it! Now, just a couple days ago he was like, "do it, c'mon its easy. c'mon!" So with his support I did it, and within two minutes I stalled...twice! I was so scared! lol I wanna learn how to drive it, too but I'm afraid I'll break it.SO MY QUESTION IS: Do any of you ladies know how to drive stick shift (manual, other than automatic)? If so, who got you driving it? Was it hard to learn? If you drive both automatic and stick, which one is easier to learn?so where's place in North Florida that can teach me to drive manually for a cheap price?

My wife drives a stick shift, and she's really good at it, better than a lot of men. She drives a rav-4 now. Most newer model stick shifts are quite easy to drive. Go to a parking lot with no traffic and practice there to get your confidence back. I dont think you need a special driving school to teah you, anyone can learn it.

What a very sexist way to ask the question. I want to help you, but am offended that there is a woman claiming there's something a woman can do only if helped by a woman.Would you like to give up your right to vote and own property? The underlying implications of your question are absolutely insulting. "You are afraid you'll break it.""Woman, was it hard to learn?"

I know how to drive manual. It's not easy at first and I stalled out many many times. But look at this way, if you know how to drive it you won't ever be stranded due to not knowing how to drive a manual. It can in turn save you life one day.The way I learned was my father had me drive a manual up to New Hampshire on a family trip and everytime I stalled out he would punch me in the leg. And let me tell you it's been almost ten years since then and I still stall out tima and again. It happens to everybody. You just have to trust yourself, and don't let your boyfriend frustrate you.

I've been driving a stick since I was 15 (my girlfriend taught me)....I'm now 52...where do you live in FL ??? (I live near FWB/Destin)I don't automatics...to me they are 'point and shoot' type cars ( like cameras...no driving, just getting there.) I've never stalled any car (much)...I usually have a 'can't put my foot on the brake problem' (which is why my mechanic always asks me if I actually USE the brakes).Auto's are easier, but if you learn to drive a stick, you can drive anything, any time...(but if I were you, I'd find someone other than my boyfriend to teach me....men are NOT that nice when it comes to teaching a woman something....I taught my husband (when he was my boyfriend, but I have patience...(sometimes ;D )).

Well no one I know is going to let you learn on their car. It would be tough to find a rental with a stick, they are out there but a little harder to find. Your boyfriend is the best option and it is not hard to learn, just takes practice like anything else. You will stall it and make mistakes, no way around that...Of course an automatic is easier, just put in drive and go. Just learn to brake properly and the rules of the road.I bought a Subaru with a 4 speed stick in college and just drove around the neighborhood, then progressed to the roads, then freeway.
