Supposedly the exhaust manifold is shot, all the bolts are rusted out and there is a fair deal of corrision. The car is just about 5-6 years old. It was kept and driven in New England until 06 when it was brought out to California. Could road salt really cause this much damage, or does driving style contribute to this?

Road salt can be disaturous to a vehicles exhaust system. It may be cheaper to get after market compare to factory systems. Factory exhausts can be very exspensive even though it is stainless steel. prolong used in bad weather can eat up stainless steel.

ill make you a question, why not get rust ANYTHING ELSE on your engine but exhaust?thats easy, the road salt has nothing to do with corrosion on exhaustin easy words the heat from the combustion go thru exhaust but that combustion is not perfect, some of the gases will burn again on the manifold make it hot for a while after you turn off the engine and combine with cold weather (heat and cold) make the manifold get that ugly appearance because manifold is not made in aluminum like the engine itself in other words that will happen with the pass of the years not due road salt

Someone drove the hell out of the car.

Mines costs me a little over 500 but that's because i had a hook up so i'm estimating 700 to 1000 depending on what brand you get and if you are going to do the installation yourself or pay someone to do it for you.

My complete exhaust system on my '03 type s was $600 and I love it. It's a greddy.
