Default Who makes Acura stock stereo?

I have a 1998 Acura Integra GSR and I am thinking of replacing the stock stereo with an Alpine, but I have heard that the stock stereos are actually made by Alpine. If that's true, I don't want to replace an Alpine with an Alpine. Does anyone know who manufactured the original stock stereo?

Yes, Alpine. They still manufacture Honda's stereos today (unless it says Bose on it). A new after market Alpine unit would be better then the stock one still. So Alpine is probably your best bet as they make speakers and head unit's that will be the exact right size for the car.

It used to be the car manufacturers put low-end car stereos in their cars. This had a serious drawback: It meant that most everyone would upgrade to a "real" stereo (Alpine, Kenwood, etc.). More of these high-end stereos would get stolen out of cars, so insurance rates rose for lots of cars. This meant that the affordability of the car (monthly car payment + insurance + gas) went down because the insurance was higher.Car companies quickly realized that they could charge more for the cars if they had high-end equipment pre-installed in every car (people would see the value of paying an extra $300 if the car came with a built-in nice stereo), and the insurance rates would drop because fewer cars would be broken into.Honda tends to use Sony equipment, Acura uses only Apline equipment in their cars to solve this problem.

my acura has a stock bose stereo in it. 1998 car stereo can be upgraded although it is border line. most new cars come with better radios than 10 years ago, cept you car is about 10 years ago. manufacturers did not really get this idea till 2001-2002 models that they could charge 5k for a radio that cost them 20 bucks.if your radio does not say right on it (advertising) then it is just a honda radio. if it says alpine... well you get the idea
