It's only a timer so when you have so many miles it turns on. It just means that you are supposed to go to a dealer or another auto shop to get everything checked out. Et cetera. I have a '99 TL and the light has been on since I bought it in 2006. Not a major deal...so take it in when you have time/money.

when is the last time you had an oil change? typically the maintenance required (reqd) light is telling you it's time for an oil change. after changing the oil reset the light. how do you reset it right? simple, there are different styles: one of them with the key off press and hold the trip reset button, still holding turn key on wait for light to blink and go out, then let go of button. another if there is a funny looking button with a dimple in it do same thing as above accept use this button instead of tripometer button. i hope that helps.

the maintainance required light is to remind us that we are suppored to return the car to the dealer for service at 7,500 miles interval. They feel that you should check hoses, belts filters and so on , check with your owner's manual for more info. A simple reset procedure will reset the lamp

The light means you should perform the recommended maintenance for your car. Whether that is as simple as an oil change or as involved as putting in a new timing belt depends on the mileage of your car. Check the manual or consult the dealer. If you want to turn the light off there is a recessed button below the dash. It's right under the steering column. When you first start the car and the light is blinking, hold down the button until the light turns off. That will reset the timer until it's time for more maintenance.
