I have an 2002 and have had some transmission problems. Consumer reports says to stay away from the 2006 RSX but I don't know if that applies to the type-s also.I would probably go with a 2005.

Go to http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov to find Consumer Complaints, Defect Investigations, Recalls, and Technical Service Bulletins for the 02 - 06 RSX-S

I've had a 2002 (RSX-S) since 2001 and the only problem I've had was the ac ate itself...

I would say the 05' models are the best since they still had 160 Hp base and 210 for Type-S. The 06' lost 5 hp. Well i think. But the 05' is the best in my opinion.

They are pretty much the same car in 02' to 04', the 05' / 06' models had a minor redesign of the front and rear lights and some driveablity improvements. I have not heard of any major problems of the car engine or transmission wise. I put 65000 miles on my 02' with no issues. Later model cars usually address any engineering issues that pop up and improve the car overall, so 06' would be the best choice.. Check the link below to find the changes on the 05'/06' model over the previous model year.
