you´ll end up f+ck+ng your engine, specially valves, on the long run (maybe not too long). Premium doesn´t leave as much crap in it as regular, and besides, if you want performance, premium gas is way better. Japanese cars rev like crazy, and that means friction and wear, so a cleaner engine, is a lasting engine

that could be bad. I did the reverse thing with my girlfriends car so I called an automechanic. Apparently the higher octane gas burns less efficiently. Also when I saw your question I looked it up on wikipedia. The premium gasoline burns less efficiently but your engine is special tuned to overcome that. Because of this if you used premium gasoline your car would pollute less and be more energy efficient. Also premium gasoline is designed to be more compressed by your engine so since you are probably getting less air than normal to the regular gasoline you probably are getting crappy gas mileage.

i am sure the vehicle has a knock sensor and will componsate, however as said by the others it is worth it to at least us a higher octane than 87... all the same you will loose performance, you mightn't feel much of a difference and it shouldn't ping (knbock sensor) but it will some what scorch the valves...if you want to try octane boost i have had too varied an outcome to suggest yea or nea, however if you run a fuel system cleaner like marvel mystery oil or techron you should be good

in one word : DON'Tsome of the people here have already pointed out the bad things that can happen. Trust me it's not just a loss in power.you may save 2-300 dollars on gas in the YEAR but the cost for the repairs will be 10 times that when it screws up your engine. there's a reason your car needs 91.i have an audi a4 that runs only on premium . i can feel the car having a bad day even when i change brands of gas and i'd hate to see what 87 would do to it.these cars are not as simple as they used to be before, they are very very complicated engines and no your software will not compensate for it. it can compensate for a lot of things but you are really messing around here. get a cheaper car if you want but leave the fuel alone bud. your car is very high revving.your type is is not turbo'd right? if it is then definitely leave it alone.

Your RSX is a high compression engine. Higher compression of the air-fuel mixture increases the heat content inside your engine's cylinders. Higher octane ratings equate to a higher 'flash point' of your fuel...higher compression & forced induction engines require these higher octane fuels to insure proper combustion. Your engine will not suffer on the short-run other than experiencing some than loss of power. Your engine control module (ECM) will retard your ignition to avoid detonation...this will protect your engine from mechanical damage. However, on the longrun, you risk 'fouling' or carbon buildup to the internals of your engine since you ECM will reprogram your ignition to run cooler. There's hardly any point in using Octane boosters...it's simply smarter to just use the higher octane gas in the first place. And if I did run the lower octane gas for a period of time, I think I'd be dumping fuel additives into the system to help decarbonize your engine.

lol to the first guy.. you will actually burn gas faster.. it's not good for your car, but it won't blow it up right away.. eventually it could cause problems like what everyone else is saying.. plus you lose power (and i think it's noticeable) and your car will just run kinda shitty.. hey if you wanted the car, you should not be too cheap to just get the good gas that it needs.. both my cars take 91 and it sucks but oh well it's the luxury of having the fast cars!!!!

If you are that broke that you cant afford an extra $0.10 a gallon you need a cheaper car. You will lose some power but your knock sensor should keep your engine ok. Long term it would do some damage.

Most likely nothing. as the quality of gasoline you get now a days is fairly good, the problem most people had was in the older cars that took leaded gas some cars needed a higher octane due to the high compression, and the leaded portion of the gas acted as a lubricant. but all in all you should have no problem.

You will lose some engine power, and the engine will not last as long.
