The Acura RDX is a nice vehicle. It is an SUV and the AWD is state of the art. SH-AWD actually helps the vehicle turn by having the outside rear wheel turn more (gets more power) when you are making a turn, providing extra turning power in marginal traction conditions. The usual 4x4 is basically useless and actually a hindrance for normal driving, the idiot manufs need to at-least put an awd mode on all vehicles. A 4x4 setting is basically designed to get the vehicle moving in a straight line, therefore when you turn with the 4x4 engaged, the mechanicals take a beating.Normal AWD allows power to be transfered from the slipping axle to the other axle or it is continually distributing power at a given ratio (eg. 90:10 or 60:40 etc). When slippage occurs power is lessened to that axle and transfered to the other axle. Some AWD mechanisms will monitor each individual wheel and provide more or less power to each wheel 4matic by MB etc. SH-AWD manages the power but also monitors the steering angle etc and provides more power to the outer rear wheel to help the car in turning. If the mpg is bearable and the same for the cost and if you like the vehicle then go for it. Acura is the sophisticated marque of Honda, if you want basic awd (front to rear split) then the CRV will do it, but for the extra pizazz of status and safety and handling the rdx or mdx is a good vehicle. Final point is that you are the only one who can put a value to the vehicle and judge your likes and dislikes, therefore, if you like it it is worth it!
