Acura (like Lincoln) has gone to naming their vehicles with letters only to avoid translation problems when selling their cars in other countries. You can research trim levels and all easily at kbb.com.

Those letters don't mean anything. They just made them up to name their models. Lexus I know has those letters stand for something, but I don't think Acura does. The Type R just means that it's a sportier version.

The Type-R is the 195hp top of the line sports coupe with the tightest suspension. The GS-R is the next coming in at 170hp. The GS and LS and RS have the same 140hp motors and only differ in interior options like power windows, locks, leather and so forth. Only the Type-R and GS-R have VTEC.

they ran out of names and started using letters..haven't you noticed that most Americans now speak in letters and numbers, instead of names...listen some time...

After the R, it's the GS-R, after that it's the GS, then the LS, and finally the RS. I haven't really ever known what the acronyms for the different model types mean, except the R (Racer). But between the RS thru GS it's just the luxury amenities. GS-R better engine. (not hand built though.)

They mean nothing. They are just un-creative letters. The 1st answer is WORNG, as the RL is the Legend in all other countries. And, the letters cant be mis-pronouced
