water pump is going out or you have a crack in your radiator.

Run the car with the heat on low to avoid any future problems. I had this exact problem with my Legend and it turned out to be the sensor. Also check the condition of your water pump it maybe getting old and ready to burst. When that happens the rpm's will go down and tear the engine apart once it blows. After mine blew out the car started to have a lower end knocking to the engine and it wasn't pretty. But the sensor will run you around $180 to get the sensor from the dealership and around $60 for somebody to install it. But if you don't get this fixed asap it will start to mess with you VSS and the whole car will go haywire. Bad experience with mine. Good Luck.

I would suspect a faulty sending unit (sensor) or a bad gauge. The problem could be worse than this, so take it easy on your car until you have it checked out.

First make sure you really are not overheating. If the gauge is moving crazy then chances are you have a bad coolant temperature sensor or a problem with the gauge itself.
