Default Anybody with an Acura TL 04' run on Regular Unleaded?

Does anybody with an Acura TL 04' run on Regular Unleaded? Just curious what the results are and if it's possible to run on. I know it states Premium but just curious, what if...I put Regular Unleaded.Thanking you all in advance.

Gas prices gettin to ya huh? You can run any vehicle with reglular unleaded but if the manufacturer recommends super, you will compromise your cars performance. The primary thing you should be concerned with is the octane rating. But you can run your Ac on reg.

if you run regular unleaded the fuel might detonate in the cylinders and cause engine wear. detonation is when the fuel ignites in the cylinder before the piston reaches tdc and causes a pinging noise. the pinging noise you hear is two flame fronts colliding together and is very bad for the engine.

The engine will retard ignition timing and you will have about 15 less horsepower, best case scenario. Worse case scenario you will get some mild pre-detonation that will damage your engine over time.I put 90 octane in my $3000 used Volvo because that is what it's supposed to use, if you can afford a TL you can afford to put the gasoline in it that it's designed to use. Don't be such a tightwad. LOL

I dont think there is any such thing a predetonation anymore. That is why cars have a knock sensor. To the best of my knowledge the knock sensor will recognize any predetonation immediately and start igniting the fuel earlier. You will then lose power. I have tried to research this a lot and that is what I have come up with, but I still run premium in my BMW. If you start running regular and it works out alright let me know

It will cost you a tank full of gas to get your answer. My research on this matter has taught me that only vehicles capable of recognizing the difference between high octane gas can benefit from it. For example, if you have a bmw recommended to use 91 octane and you use 87, your car can adjust the timing to compensate for the lower octane (reduced performance of course). Cars that only need 87 are usually less sophisticated and will not compensate or benefit or know the difference between different octane, so try it and see if it helps or not.Your car WILL suffer performance wise. I own 2 turbo charged vehicles that require 91 and up octane, when I put in 87 there is a noticeable difference in performance. Best bet is stop being cheap and get a honda civic if you don't want to buy expensive gas. Why risk damage to your engine?

If you keep going with Regular Unleaded over 10+ years your car will have problems with performance.

I have the 05 version, and it is clearly stated that you should use premium. If you use regular not only will you compromise the performance of the vehicle, but you risk invalidating the vehicle warranty. My friend had a Mazda albeit supercharged, and he never put premium in it. One day it started making a funny noise and the check engine light came on. Using regular had messed up a bunch of stuff and he ended up getting a bill for $1,600.Premium is costing you about $3 or so extra per tank. If you can't afford that, you should trade your vehicle in for something cheaper that takes regular.
