Only four cylinders you say. Your problem is you only have half a motor. Get a V8

Try a can of fuel injector cleaner. Run one tank of high octane gasoline through it also. I had a car that did that once, I would sit and wait 30 seconds, then kick the accelerator it would idle down immediately. I do not mean riv it up, just kick it once to idle down.

its your idle air control valve located in the back of the intake mani you might not need to replace it but just adjust it with a hex key....

Check the coolant level (and purge air out of the cooling system as described in the factory manual). If this doesn't fix the trouble look towards the coolant temperature sensor. If it is defective it can make the engine rise up and down when cold and then stop once it warms up. Hondas and MItsubishi's are prone to this as well. This is not the only possible cause of this of course, but if it only does it when cold then would definitely check. I had a Honda do this (parent company of Acura as you know) after installing a new timing belt and water pump and had forgotten to purge the air out of the system when refilling. Fixed it right up and have since found that problem with the others mentioned including my own 90 Eclipse.

Default Re: My 1995 acura integra revs up and down when i start it.?

Mohavedesert is completely right! in my expirience the wire from the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor some how broke off from the jack connected to the sensor. I took out the Jack myself and brought it to an electrician to soldier thick enough to have good conductivity. In the mean time i put a temporary wire and twist the end. Don't forget to clear the memory on the ECU cause that's where i was able to tell that it had something to do with the ECT sensor. It's stopped for a while but i guess through driving around for over 2 weeks shook it up a bit and it's at it again. But when i get the connector back i'll update this forum and let ya'll know how it goes....
