automatics, take bolts loose on pan, loosen them enough to drain fluid, then remove bolts to drop pan and clean with a clean rag, install pan with new gasket or silicone, fill with appropriate fluid through check tube, check manual or parts store to see how much fluid is needed, without emptying torque converter. if manual transmission, should be a drain and fill plug on drivers side of tranny. this type usually does not need replaced.
