Default Need help buying an Acura Integra?

Ok so I might buy an Acura Integra. It has 67,000 miles and he's selling it for $5,000. There isn't anything wrong without besides small stuff. It has turbo and the car is automatic. This is gonna be my first car. He said this Imma need to know how to tune it and all that stuff. Is this a good and deal and a good first car?

Sounds like a lot of money for such an old car, I would be skeptical if it really only had 67,000 miles. The fact that someone had put a turbo in it then didn't drive it makes be want to avoid this car .

Never believe everything a seller tells you, he just wants to sell the car for a high price. Ask if he Can prove the car only has 67,000 miles ???

It's your first car, it has a significant amount of aftermarket modifications, allegedly low miles and a high price. I'd bet it won't pass emissions and that's why they are selling it. No, it would not be a good first car.

Well, modifications and relatively high price for a 1st car. Your should also consider your insurance probably would be high for it - http://insurance-rip-off.blogspot.com/

Maybe I'm the only one that sees the worth of these cars =/

Granted that it's an auto and those are hard to sell as it is - the turbo is probably why the price is inflated. Normally, a stock to mildly modded Integra will sell around $3000 in fair condition with tons of miles. Anyway, there are two things I'd like to point out...

First, this is a turbo car. If the owner had spent a good amount of money on the setup, it's probably still reliable. Unfortunately, there's not many people who would spend the right amount of money and time to build a car reliably. Their short cuts are going to eat away at your pockets. So if this is your first car and your knowledge of cars (modified cars) are little to none - STAY AWAY. A turbo car will need more maintenance regardless of how well its built.

Secondly, the automatic transmissions are weak and sluggish for these cars. If the tranny is stock and the engine is putting out any real power, you can plan for a new transmission in your future. Also, if you want to get rid of this car in the future, you'd better hope someone likes you come around or convert it to a manual. The 5 speed transmission can deal with much more abuse and is more attractive to buyers.

If you're still set on purchasing it, bring a trusty mechanic with you to check out other common items (ball joints, tires, steering, leaks, blah blah). I'd say an automatic car is a safe bet as a first car but not when they're modified like that. Good luck!
