Default What kind of oil should I use in my Acura LS?

I just got my hands on an Acura integra LS vtec, custom tuned to redline at 8500 with itr pistons and gtr head. I managed to forget to ask the previous owner what type of oil he used and was curious as to what oil thickness and brand would really be good for my car.

you could call up Acura and ask...it's not rocket science to research on your own these days, what with the interwebs and all....

5w30 Castrol is good...

Sounds like you bought a fairly modified engine. These cars came with 5w30 (or 10w30 in warmer climates) as the recommended oil. If you understand what these numbers mean, you can pretty much pick your favorite brand.

Personally, Mobil1 works well enough for the average driver and readily available. Their 5w30 isn't great but their other weights like 0w30, 10w30 and 0w40 work well. Normally you would want to stick with the same weight of oil (the last two numbers, 30 weight). I only mentioned 0w40 because it sheers pretty quick and eventually settles to a higher 30 weight.

Otherwise feel free to use any other synthetics of the same weight or even conventional oil if you're up to more frequent oil changes. Remember that the oil filter is just as important as the oil. I personally like the FRAM Ultra for its price and quality. Again, your preference but synthetic is what I'd recommend for the built motor without getting technical.

I can understand you wanting to stick to the same oil as it takes two or three cycles to fully swap over to the new oil but its your car now. An engine shouldn't be that sensitive to the different brands.
