Default I have a 1999 acura tl the check engine light came on and the code was P0420...?

After driving (1999 acura tl 3.2) I say about 2 hours I shut the car off I try to turn it back on it rattles and shakes and I have to wait 10-20min to cool down before it turns back on. Is there anyone with similar issues that can help me pls. Im trying to explain to my mechanic but all he gives me is possibilities based on the P0420 code. Pls anyone Help!!

For the PO420 you will need a new catalytic converter,& no on that car it wont be anything else long as no o2 codes or a lean code stored (keep the old one if you can its worth $$ at scrap yard) ,get a factory one or you will be replacing them every year..For your other issue- Is check engine light Flashing as that is happening ? if so you have a misfire and probably a faulty coil ,if not nothing really comes to mind (injector is a slim chance, check fuel trims short term & long term, they should be near 1volt) that would not be setting another code or turning check engine light on ..cars not overheating right? hope these things help you.(& So sorry to disappoint you Brent, but with 20years with Acura I have never had it be anything else For that code on an Acura or Honda period when not accompanied by other codes like a lean code,I guess im being hasty) I stand by what I said.

^^^

I'd figure an actual "Acura mater tech" knows better diagnostic skills than tossing a cat converter out at first glance of a P0420. Someone got socially promoted to their job...
