Default How Do I Verify an Acura Pre-Owned Certification?

I recently purchased an Acura from an Acura Dealership. I asked for proof and documentation that the vehicle is indeed certified--as this affects the warranties that come with the car. They showed me the 150-point inspection documents and CarFax. I asked if there was a single document (or paper certificate) that simply said "This car is certified" with signatures. They said there was none because Acura keeps a database of certified vehicles electronically.

If there is such a database, can I access it? How?

In all honesty, I believe the 150-point inspection documentation, but what's to stop a dealership from selling a car that they verbally claimed to be "certified" and then denying that claim a year later (e.g. if there should be some sort of engine-fault)?

Here is an explanation from Acura:

I'm looking for a way to look up my car specifically. Does Acura have a place where I can look up my car by VIN?

A year later? The condition of the car when you bought it might have been checked. A year later it's irrelevant. No used car is warrantied for a year.

"certified"? another totally meaningless marketing term. Those "150 point checks" are BS. The car has a wheel at each corner. Each wheel has a tire. Each tire has a valve. That's 12 checks.

I would think it should be mentioned in the sales contract

When you purchased the car didn't you see on the CarFax ? Sometimes they list "Offered for sale as an Acura Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle" and then "Sold as a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle". You should be covered for Certification includes: 12-month/12,000-mile Limited Warranty, 7-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Warranty, 24-Hour Roadside Assistance. It should be in your contract. It may even state it in your service manual. Call the service department of your dealer ask how long you have. If it's in their system you're fine. You can check the VIN of your car many places or You will have to pay a fee. I wouldn't worry about it with Acura. They wouldn't say it's a certified pre-own if it's not.

150 pont inspection by who? Take that "inspection" with a grain of salt. Same with Carfax reports. Get your own mechanic to look at the car and let him test drive it.

There are many used cars for sale. Walk if you are not too sure about a car that you are looking at. It is your money.
