Default How do i get the evaps ready for 2002 acura rsx (base) for smog?

I only had 1 code and I replaced the knock sensor and already did the usual oil change. I thought maybe the gas cap might have something to do with it and I replaced it with a vented cap like its suposed to have. I bought it from carmax with a non vented cap i think.

The only "vent" in an evap system is the canister vent valve. If the cap had a vent it would have an evap leak all the time. The BEST cap you can get for a car is an OEM (Factory) cap. and FYI a knock sensor is completely unrelated to EVAP. Your car will pass or fail depending on the amount of monitors ready or not ready. if you have a code in the car its considered NOT ready. If you had a code and the car has not completed the correct amount of drive cycles to reset the monitor its is also considered NOT ready. Only way to know if your car is ready for an emissions test is to use a scan tool and go to the "readiness monitor check" screen under OBD2/Generic functions.

keith nailed it everything he said was correct, although in pa if your car has a code but it is not turning the cel on it will pass, and also if your 02 acura has 2 monitors that have not run it will still pass in pennsylvania,,,laws differ by state , not sure where u r at,
