Default 93 Accord: Struts/Shocks question

I'm thinking that's it's time to replace the Shocks and/or
Struts on my 93 Accord (172,000 miles). This vehicle is
primary a "commute" vehicle to drive on the highway to work
each day.

It's still "holiding" to the road fine, but hitting bumps
or pot-holes at about 25 or 30 miles per hour is kinda like
riding in a 73 chevy worn out pickup (rough). At 70 or 80 mph,
you hardly feel them (speed I guess).

So it seems time to replace them? (right?)

Couple more questions:
----------------------------
How can you "test" to see if they need replaced?

So what do I need to look for in what type and brand?

Any brands to stay away from?

Should I replace just the front or the rear also?

After replacing the front struts(shocks), should I get
the tires re-aligned?

Any other helpful advice?

Thanks for any help.
