I don't recall the colors but the connector has a latch, with a locking tab
on it, you have to press with your finger before pulling it straight back
off the bulb - look at it carefully with a strong inspection light and you
should be able to make out the latch... maybe poke with a small screwdriver
to see how the latch moves.
The retaining ring is a knurled ring which holds the headlamp bulb in. You
turn it anti-clockwise, looking from the back of the bulb, to loosen it.
If it's years since those things were disturbed, they will be stubborn to
get off. I'd suggest a spritz with silicone spray to ease things.

IIRC you at least have to loosen it and move it a bit.
