I don't agree totally.

If someone's horn quite working (for example), there is no harm in telling
them to check the connector (at the horn) and the fuse. This is very typical
advice one would receive here, and it would not "invalidate" the warranty if
they were to take it upon thereself to fix.

There are also some of us that have more experience than the "certified
tech" that would end up working on our cars. Additionally, it is also
typical to take a greater "pride" in workmanship, when you are working on
your own car.

And lastly, any repairs that are done by dealers, gets billed back to the
factory. Wanna guess how they recoup those costs? That's right...higher car
prices for all of us.

Now don't get me wrong...any warranty work that is major, or that would
effect the validity of a warranty, should be referred to the dealer, but I
just don't agree with your "across the board" statement.
