They usually work quite well, even though they're limited by your
radio's performance. I can't believe two modulators were bad. I
would have to assume that a setting or cable is bad. I have only
messed with FM adapters when working on a customer's car, usually just
removing them to gain access to something else. They are fairly
simple though. The signal to the modulator is transmitted through
some sort of cable, possibly DIN-- that could be the problem. The MD
unit could have an output problem or there could be a menu setting
which has muted it's output. The antenna lead between modulator and
radio could be bad or the splitter portion of the modulator could be
malfunctioning (maybe its outboard of the modulator and was reused
during both tests). I would hope that a matching frequency was
selected on the unit AND radio and that it is not being used in your
area. (Duh)

Do your FM stations still play loud and clear? If so the antenna jack
is OK.
