Not so. If you use the nosebra *properly* it should keep the nose of
your car chip free. The key to proper use is to primarily use it when
you take long trips. The damage to the paint happens when the nosebra
sits on the car too long. Dirt will collect in sections underneath the
bra and act like sandpaper on the paint. This is worse if you have it
on while driving in rain where even more dirt and grime will collect.
I've owned an '86 Acura Integra using the nosebra for over 10 years.
The front end was nearly chip free when I sold it. My former '96
Accord's nose and hood were chip free after five years of use (sold the
Accord). Currently I use a nosebra on my '01 Acura Integra GSR and '91
Acura NSX. The nose of my 12 year old NSX is virtually chip free. I
can only count one or two little rock chips. Others in our NSX club
are stunned that the nose is so clean and the original paint.
The key here is to use the nosemask ONLY when necessary. Around town,
you don't go fast enough to really need one. Yeah, it takes time to
put the nosebra on and off but it's only a few minutes.
What it boils down to is this. If you're the kind of person that
doesn't want to fuss with installing and removing a nosebra all the
time, the suggestion is not to use one at all. You'll do more damage
to the nose of the car by leaving the nosebra on for prolonged periods
of time.
