I doubt that the engine is your problem as its speed is not fixed by the car
speed.
Anyway, to eliminate the engine, it is quite simple. Once you reached the
speed and you hear the noise, shift the car in neutral. If the noise doesn
go away once the engine speed droped, it is not the engine.
Your problem might be a defective wheel bearing.
