I noticed that our '03 Accord headlights were varying between two
brightness levels recently. A bit of research turned up Honda Service
Bulletin 05-034 which addresses this issue. It is caused by a poor
solder joint internal to the Electronic Load Detector (ELD).
In the case of the Accord the repair involves replacing the entire
under-hood fuse box. On some vehicles they are able to replace the ELD
as a stand-alone item while on other models it apparently is integrated
into the fuse box.
I'm happy to say that Honda paid for the replacement 100% as a goodwill
adjustment even though our car was past the warranty mileage. One thing
I like about Honda is that they seem to stand up and pay for
design/manufacturing defects even if the customer is technically SOL due
to warranty limitations. This certainly was never my experience as a GM
customer

.
Any company can produce a product which has a problem, but Honda seems
to be one of the few which goes the extra mile to make customers whole.
Seems like a smart advertising strategy to me!
