Haven't checked with any auto upholstery shops yet, but I'll let you know
what I find out as soon as I do. Since my original posting on this thread, I
have looked at about a half dozen other Civics with the exact same issue.
One of them was from the generation of Civic that came out before the one
like my wife's 2001.

It appears as though the fix shouldn't be that difficult or expensive--but
sometimes I get surprised when dealing with car repairs.
