Typically, you'll need to crank up to 10-18 seconds before a code
is set, hopefully the starter is still in once piece. You might check
and see if the 'check engine light' goes on and off normally. You
can always hookup a sensitive DMM on these, likely a reluctor,
sensors and watch the AC readings for subtle changes...no changes
probably something wrecked in the distributor.
