the lx is the 4th generation civic, (EF) and ignore matt, don't know why these people bother answering, nothing better to do....
the engine depends on spec and region, by lx i'll assume you live in america, where the 4th gen was quite limited, japan and europe had a wider range of performance levels. the base model has a 1.2 SOHC carburetor engine, (JDM only). they came with a 1.3 (d13b), a 1.4 (d14a), 1.5 (d15b) and the top US model, the Si came with the d16a6, a 1.6 SOHC. (106bhp). it had the d16z5 (130bhp) for the european market. the top model SiR in japan came with the 160bhp b16a engine, (labeled B16A2/A1 outside of japan).
so it depends on your trim, if you have the B16A already (it would have to be an import) then stick with that, if not then you can swap a B16A2 strait in, (need to change gearbox, ECU, wiring loom aswell)but will be a fairly srait swap as they come standard with the car in JDM.
for mental performance you could go for a B18C from a integra type-r, or the B18C1 (slightly less performance, USDM version) but will cost alot more and will be more work. with either of those power-weight means a fast car! not to mention, (Tim may want to read this) the B-series and K-series are some of the most tunable, high performing normally aspirated engines out there and can be faster than a ''big v8'' without forced induction.
PS. matt, a 850kg car with a DOHC VTEC 160bhp engine wont be a slow piece of ****.
