VTEC, or Variable Valve Timing And Lift Electronic Control, controls and varies valve times, making for a better and more aggressive fuel flow, opening and closing valves at the optimum time, rather than just on fixed setting. you dont have to turn it on, the switchover (kick in) will be around 5,500 rpm, you will hear it activate and feel a 'boost' similar to that of a turbo kicking in, just not as strong.

your sedan should be EK3, or the USDM equivalent, being a VTI it will have the B16A2 engine, which is a fantastic engine, it should have ''DOHC VTEC'' on the rocker cover. check the VIN plate, it will say B16A2 on engine code. VTEC engines, especially the B-series and K-series are some of the best, most capable for their size normally aspirated engines out there.

check this vid, this B16A2 is heavily modified, but on the bit where it films the speedo, listen for the VTEC switchover at 5,500rpm
