Anyone who says LS/VTEC's aren't reliable are WRONG. They are reliable if built correctly, which most are not. People tend to skimp on essential parts and try to use junkyard parts and get junkyard quality. The LS/VTEC will make both more power AND torque. But keep in mind that it is more expensive also. You will spend an extra $600-$1000 to do it the RIGHT way. I currently have a LS/VTEC in my 99 civic coupe that makes over 700 whp on 40 psi. It is a JG Engine Dynamics LS (b18A1) bottom end and a Skunk2 head. It has a Peakboost GT35R turbo kit with a AEM EMS, and methanol injection. I drive it around the streets on 15 psi making 407 fwhp, and 40 psi for track days.
