It can make the car quit, or keep it from starting. It is located in the fuel tank to replace, the fuel tank must be removed you can not replace the pump through the access panel or by taking rear seats out. You can only test the pump from there or replace the fuel sending unit. What problems are you having? The fuel pumps for that make/model are not known for going out, most commonly the fuel pump relay or 'main relay" under the dash goes bad keeping the fuel pump from working so the car wont start and could stall while driving.
