Well the car's already breathing well going by what you said. Try reducing the weight a little bit, take out spare tire and all that junk, rip out the back seats, remove carpet, stuff like that, it's free so do that first. If that doesn't help enough, look into a tuning system, like hondata. It will lower the vtec engagement point so you'll be kicking out more HP on the lower side of the RPM band.
