It does sound like you need to replace your shocks. Whenever a shock starts to wear out it starts to skip. That's because your shock is starting to cavitate. Most likely you have a twin tube shock, which is crap any ways. Usually after a certain amount of time twin tube shocks start to wear. Try looking into some Bilsteins. Great technology and longer life.
