I advise you to take it to several muffler shops and request that they cut
out the defective section of pipe and just replace the defective section
and leave everything else as is. If the muffler shop supervisor refuses
this request--say "thanks anyway" and find a muffler shop supervisor that
will do what you want. A tape repair will not solve the problem except on
a very short term basis.
