I concur with the clutch diagnosis. Try putting the car in gear and with the
emergency brake on slowly release the clutch. A well functioning clutch will
usually just stall out the engine. If the engine just winds up then the
clutch is bad. The trailer load made it show up faster that's all. It would
have failed under normal conditions soon anyway.
