Well the answer to your 1st Question on the 2.2L is: Honda made the 2.2L i believe since1993, they made an F22 that went on Accords and some Preludes, and they made the H22 that came on Preludes as early as 94 if I'm correct. However the F22 is non Vtec, and the H22 is Vtec. after that came the S2000 Engine which is also a 2.2L but more powerful and expensive.2nd Question: No not all 2door Ex's come with Vtec, and if they do its SOHC Vtec which is WEAK!!! lol...in order to feel and enjoy the full potential of Vtec, you need a DOHC aka Dual Cam Vtec VS a Single Cam Vtec.If you want a Cheap engine that will give you good power on your civic, I suggest to go with a B16 engine from the Civic Si 99-00. This engine is cheap and is DOHC Vtec.If you want even MORE power and have a little more money, you can get the H22 DOHC Vtec off of the Prelude, Either H22a1 or H22a4 or H22a, all the same only difference is the Type-S H22A1 is from Japan Only and has 220HP the Rest have 195-200HP. This is Honda's Big boy and has great Torque and power. And last if you want something more expensive and new, go with the K20 or K24 Swap. These are iVtec and come from Acura RSX and TSX. that have great potential and are also Power full.I really recommend the H22, Because I drive a 2000 Honda Prelude H22A4 and I love it. Hope this helps and good luck with your swap, and ALWAY BE SAFE.
