dont beat on your car. thats rule number one with any car. this means dont EVER drive at high rpms, doing that, your just asking for engine problems. ive got a 98 civic ex and i generally dont let the rpm guage go above 3000 rpm. i use synthetic oil (the ones made for high mileage) and it works fine. so long as you dont drive at high rpms, your car should be fine.
