Default My 1998 Honda Civic is making a ticking noise when it runs and sometimes it starts and...

...sometimes it doesnt.? it has 110, 000 miles on it and the timing belt hasn't been changed, the battery and starter do work. it only starts when the throttle it pushed all the way down. i have heard that it could be the valves offsetting the pistons, and the rods but i'm not sure and i need help. if this is the case am i better off getting a new motor or should i just replace everything?
