you're getting it wrong there chief4400 is where the butterflies in the intake open up more5800 is where the third lobe on the cam is engaged-vtecthere is no point for a vtec engagement that is sooner unless you have forced induction or a good increase in displacement. it's about volumetric efficiency. it makes no point to switch to other lobe when you don't need the air you will just loose torque
