I work at an U.S Acura dealership and we have people from Canada every now an then bring cars to us for service. NO WE DO NOT HONOR THE FACTORY WARRANTY on a Canadian car. Sorry and to my knowledge Canada won't honor factory warranties on US cars. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure none of the automakers honor warranties from cars sold outside their borders Even the factories that have European Delivery programs.. you buy a US/Canadian spec car from the dealership but pick it up at the factory, say at Volvo Sweden . It's a US car so the warranty is valid. You may have a problem getting it home through customs, and registering in Canada my give you fits too. You might lose a chunk of your 15K just to get it home and put plates on.. Here in the the US if you bring in a Canadian car it is considered a "gray market car" because the US/Canadian spec's are different. Even the VIN numbers are different. Your Canadian dealership is correct in that you need to contact Acura North America for sure. A while back there was an Acura dealership in Niagara Falls New York that sold both Canadian and U.S. cars they might honor a warranty but it really is up to Acura if they are going to pay the claim. I would ask the Acura dealership in the US this .. "If I buy this take home to Canada but bring it back here for service will YOU (not Acura) honor the warranty?" If they say they will make them. Get it in writing! Another thought.. can you lease it from a US company it's registered it in the US and do the services in the US but live in Canada? That way the car is still a US car and the warranty would still be honored. That's a question I would ask.. might work but then again might be a HUGE can of worms! Either way the warranty does not cross the border. Maybe some day it might when Acura USA and Acura Canada finally get through their heads that it would make things simpler all around if they would just think of us as one Acura not Acura USA or Acura Canada
