Unfortunately, not all used cars are inspected prior to resale. A "Certified Pre-Owned" vehicle is required to meet the factory specifications for a new car, and all inspection points are signed off by the mechanic(s), and these inspection points are specified by the insurance company that sells the extended warranty, not the factory and not the dealership. This insurance company is based in Chicago, ILL, and they keep track of ALL vehicle breakdowns and repairs that are done at dealerships and many ASE mechanic/repair shops. They know down to the mile when a part is likely to fail, and they keep track of this information and extended warranty prices are based on this information.
