The whole purpose of the "break in" period of an engine is to get all the components seated properly, lubricated and in working order. It allows that engine parts to warm up and cool down under normal operating conditions and run at a rather easy pace, sealing any minute gaps in the gaskets.I have owned several cars that have needed a break in period. Even when I drove the engines harder than what was recommended, I had no troubles, but I was advised that by doing that, you increase wear and tear on your engine, would would mean that you might need some repairs sooner than you would normally.
