Integra acts like it has no gas
This past Wednesday, my 1998 Acura Integra was running fine. My
boyfriend took it to Jiffy Lube to get the oil changed (I don't know
all that much about cars, but enough to change the oil myself. But he
insists on getting it done). As I was driving home that night, I
noticed once that when I took off from a start, the car hesitated just
a little. The next day, it did it again as I was leaving a parking
lot. Except this time it hesitated quite a bit and I almost got hit
by an oncoming car.
The next morning (yesterday), he noticed that it hesitated and almost
stalled out, once again, from a stop, leaving a parking lot. As I
left home that morning to go to work, I almost got hit again crossing
an intersection. What happens is I press the gas, and the car
accelerates a little and then it feels like it's not getting any gas,
and won't go . . . only momentum is carrying the car forward. And it
begins to stall, and then suddenly its ok, at least while its still
moving. Take off from a start again, and it happens again. Most of
my drive is down an expressway, so it's not stop and go, and I got to
work.
At lunch, my boyfriend put some STP fuel line cleaner in the tank and
filled the tank with gas. He then spent my lunch hour driving the car
around to get the fuel through the lines. On the way home, as soon as
I get off the expressway near my house, there's a light. I stopped at
the light, and when I tried to accelerate from a stop, the car began
to die. I had enough momentum to get off to the side of the road.
My boyfriend came and got the car started again, but it died almost
right away. Got it started again, I drove around a parking lot for a
couple of minutes, seemed to be ok. But then it died at the first
light I had to stop at. He ended up driving it the rest of the way
home.
My dad's a diesel mechanic and is coming to look at it, but any hints
as to what this might be would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!
