The transmission on the 2000 and 2001 Accord had two problems that Honda has acknowledged are caused by the design of separate parts and seals inside the transmission. Only a small percentage of the transmissions had one problem or the other but Honda is a very customer focused company and they felt a responsibility not to penalize any Honda owner who would experience either problem down the road. Honda did not "recall" the transmissions but rather they extended the warranty on them to 7 years or 100,000 miles in the event you were one of the owners who had a problem with the transmission.Honda replaces the transmissions with factory remanufactured transmissions (they re-use the outer shell and put all new parts inside so they have to call them 'remanufactured') and because of the expense of the replacement and their concern that you not have another problem with the transmission, the quality control process on the remanufactured transmission is much more rigorous than the typical Honda quality control. As long as the transmission was installed properly and the hydraulic system flushed out as prescribed by Honda, the new transmission will outlast the car. I am not aware of any failures of the new transmissions that use the redesigned parts. I have heard of failures related to improper installation or not following the proper procedures but those occured well in the past and don't seem to be an issue as dealers have gotten up to speed on the replacement program. If it were my car I would have every confidence that the replaced transmission will last the life of the car.hope that answers your question
